Magnesium hydroxide for water treatment replaces caustic soda and lime where operator safety, controlled alkalinity and lower sludge volumes matter. Mg(OH)₂ is a mild, self-buffering alkali — it can overshoot pH above 9 only at high overdoses — and the Mg²⁺ ion co-precipitates heavy metals, phosphates and ammonium nitrogen in one step.

Which Grade to Use

Grade Form Best for
High Purity Mg(OH)₂ (≥99%) powder → 60% slurry Metal finishing, acid pickling and mine drainage neutralization
Active MgO powder Phosphate removal and Mg²⁺ dosing for struvite control in digesters
Heavy MgO granular Fixed-bed or dosing-silo applications needing low dust

how it performs

Solution Benefits vs. Caustic & Lime

  • Self-buffering pH: solubility caps pH near 9 — protects biology in nitrification tanks and eliminates overdosing risk.
  • Heavy-metal capture: Mg(OH)₂ flocs sweep out Ni, Cu, Zn, Cr and Fe as hydroxides with a denser, easier-dewatering sludge.
  • Safer plant operations: non-corrosive to skin and equipment; no exotic dosing-pump metallurgy needed.
  • Nutrient control: dosing MgO raises pH and supplies magnesium for struvite (MgNH₄PO₄) recovery from digester supernatant.
