Lithium-ion chemistry runs hotter and tighter every generation. Nano magnesium oxide answers three needs at once: it coats cathode particles (NCM, LCO) to suppress oxygen release and interfacial side reactions, it neutralizes trace HF in the electrolyte, and it raises the thermal stability of ceramic-coated separators. The result is longer cycle life and better abuse tolerance.
recommended grades
Which Grade to Use
| Grade | Key spec | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Nano MgO | 20–100 nm, ≥99% | Cathode surface coating, separator ceramic layer, HF scavenging |
| AR Grade MgO | reagent purity | Electrolyte additive development and lab-scale formulation |
| High Purity MgO (99.5%) | controlled D50 | Electronic ceramics, MLCC substrates and thermal-management fillers |
how it performs
Application Engineering
- Cathode coating: 0.1–1 wt% MgO wet-coating passivates the NCM surface — higher capacity retention after 500+ cycles.
- HF scavenging: MgO binds HF formed by LiPF₆ hydrolysis, protecting electrode interfaces during long cycling and high-temperature storage.
- Separator reinforcement: nano MgO in PVDF/PP ceramic layers improves thermal shrinkage resistance and wettability.
- Scale-up ready: same chemistry from 100 g R&D samples to multi-ton supply with fixed impurity profile.
